Kybella has made a name for itself in the aesthetics world. With its non-invasive features, it is becoming more and more popular. It is important to know the ins and outs of this treatment before considering it for yourself. Below are seven things everyone should know before considering this path to a new you.

WHAT IS KYBELLA?

Kybella is a nonsurgical injectable procedure used to target fat below the chin. A series of deoxycholic acid injections are used during this procedure and there is usually very little downtime and no need for incisions.

WHAT’S IN KYBELLA?

Your body naturally produces deoxycholic acid, sometimes referred to as stomach acid, to break down dietary fat, and Kybella is a synthetic version of this acid. As a result, when it is injected into submental fat, a slight swelling results, and as it goes away, your body gradually eliminates the fat cells.

WHAT IS KYBELLA USED FOR?

The area below your chin is a natural area for fat deposits to accumulate as a result of weight increase, the natural aging process, or just genetics. Kybella is intended to address submental fat, or what you know as a “double chin.” The fact that you can’t specifically target a double chin through a workout makes it extremely difficult to get rid of. Regular diet and exercise will generally help lower it, but depending on what created it, it’s not certain to do so, and getting rid of it without a specific treatment like Kybella is quite challenging.

Before Kybella, the only treatment option for a double chin was liposuction, which involved a whole lot of recovery time, anesthesia, and pain management. With Kybella, however, you can eliminate fat cells permanently with just a few injections and almost no downtime.

WHAT IS A KYBELLA TREATMENT LIKE?

The actual Kybella procedure doesn’t take very long. You’ll need to prepare for the treatment by staying away from supplements containing garlic, vitamin E, fish oil, flax seeds, and St. John’s wort. To prevent any bruising, you should also refrain from taking aspirin or ibuprofen for about a week before your treatment. Before administering the Kybella injections, the targeted area will be cleansed and numbed to make sure you’re comfortable throughout the procedure, which lasts no more than 20 to 30 minutes.

WHO CAN GET KYBELLA?

Anyone with a double chin is a candidate for Kybella, however, a consultation is required before treatment. If you’re at least 18 years old, there is a Kybella plan customizable for you.

HOW MANY TREATMENTS WILL I NEED?

The majority of people require 2-3 sessions for the best outcome, although some individuals are happy with the results after just one. After your treatment, if you still notice any submental fat, you can repeat the procedure with a 6-week interval in between.

ARE THE RESULTS PERMANENT?

Absolutely! Your body will naturally eliminate these dead fat cells because Kybella kills a number of them. The goal of Kybella is to decrease the number of fat cells in the area, however, it is practically impossible to eliminate all of them. Therefore, it’s crucial to keep a healthy weight after Kybella treatments.
